SSC Scam: TMC MLA Manik Bhattacharya Arrested, ED Takes Action After Long Interrogation

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team has taken major action on Tuesday in the teacher recruitment scam of West Bengal.  The ED has arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Manik Bhattacharya in this case.  The arrested MLA has also been a former president of the Bengal Education Board.  The ED has taken this action after a long interrogation of Manik.  The whole matter is related to irregularities in the appointments of primary teachers.



 Arrested for not cooperating in investigation

 The ED team started questioning Manik Bhattacharya on Monday afternoon.  He has been arrested for not cooperating in the investigation during long interrogation.  Let us tell you, the CBI had also summoned the TMC MLA for questioning on September 27 in this case, but he did not appear before the investigating agency.


 The Supreme Court had put an interim stay on the arrest

 After the CBI summons, the MLA had approached the Supreme Court.  Thereafter, the apex court had granted him exemption from arrest by the CBI till further orders.  However, the latest arrest has been made by the ED.  Earlier, the ED has also arrested the then West Bengal Industries Minister and former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and his close aide Arpita Mukherjee in this case.
