The world's only vegetarian crocodile, who lived in the pond of Sri Ananthapadmanabha Swamy temple complex for 70 years, died on Sunday night. Temple officials told that people used to affectionately call this crocodile as Babia. This crocodile was missing since Saturday and its carcass was found floating in the temple pond at 11.30 pm on Sunday. After this information was given to the police and animal husbandry department. The carcass of the crocodile was kept for the public's darshan, where hundreds of local people, including several politicians, came to see it on Monday morning.
Temple officials claim that this crocodile was completely vegetarian and survived only on the offerings found in the temple. Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shobha Karandlaje tweeted, "Babia, who resides in Shri Anantapur Lake Temple, has reached the feet of Vishnu. He was alive in this temple by eating prasad of rice and jaggery offered to Sri Ananthapadmanabha Swamy and guarding the temple.
