30 CISF personnel quarantined after accident victim found covid-19 positive

 At least two of the 30 CISF personnel who rescued passengers from an Air India Express flight that crashed in Kozhikode on Friday evening were released after testing positive for covid-19. The officers were released on Saturday for the next 14 days.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was the first response to the accident site at Karipur Airport where an Air India Express flight from Dubai fell into a 35-foot deep ravine with 190 people on the table top runway and two Boeing 737 aircraft broke. Eighteen passengers, including pilots, were killed.

Senior CISF officials said on Saturday that it was revealed that one of the passengers killed in the accident was infected with coronovirus. There were reports of another survivor being positive for covid-19, however, it has not been ascertained yet. As a precautionary measure, we have thrown out the personnel who were involved in rescuing these passengers, ”the official said requesting anonymity.

Confirming the development, CISF Special Director General (Airport) MA Ganapathy said that so far through contact tracing, they have identified 30 CISF personnel who are required.

"Of those 13 who live with their families, they will remain in domestic quarantine, while another 17 are housed in a college close to the airport according to the state administration," Ganapathy said.

In addition to these 30, the force will also conduct Kovid-19 tests for those who were exposed, another officer said. He said that some officials of the airport have also been asked to go into self-quarantine.

The state government has now requested residents to go into quarantine to help in the rescue work. State Health Minister K. K. "The state will always remember their work but we have to be careful," Shailaja said.
