Winter session of Parliament from November 29, opposition may surround the central government on these issues

The winter session of Parliament will run from November 29 to December 13.  On Monday, the Cabinet Committee on Parliament Affairs (CCPA) met and sent a recommendation to the President to convene the session.  This 25-day long session will have 19 sittings, which will follow the Kovid-19 protocol like the parliamentary sessions held in the last one and a half years.  There was no winter session at the end of 2020 due to the pandemic, while the Monsoon Session 2020, which was to be held from 14 September to 1 October, was indefinitely postponed to 23 September due to COVID-19.

Also, the budget session 2020, which started on 31 January 2020, was postponed indefinitely on 23 March 2020.  Earlier this year, the monsoon session was filled with protests and disruptions by the opposition demanding a response from the government on the Pegasus spyware issue and the repeal of three agricultural laws.  The session was adjourned sine die two days before its scheduled adjournment due to protests between the government and the opposition.

In the winter session, the opposition can surround the Modi government on issues like price rise, Lakhimpur Kheri violence, terrorist attacks on civilians in Kashmir and farmers' protest against three agricultural laws.  Apart from this, the opposition can also attack the government regarding the Pegasus case.  At the same time, the government has many pending bills which it would like to take forward in this session.

Earlier in the monsoon session, the opposition had targeted the Prime Minister over the situation during the second wave of the pandemic.
